A week to reflect, take part and transform. We are opening six days dedicated to citizenship, volunteering, social responsibility and sustainability, with activities that invite the whole U.Porto community to make a difference. Because every gesture counts, and impact begins with taking part.

The #SerCidadão Week is about to begin!
Join us at the opening session of the #SerCidadão Week and discover the programme of a week dedicated to citizenship, volunteering, social responsibility and sustainability. We open this week of impact with a message from the U.Porto Rector and a welcome from the Vice-Rector for Well-being and Institutional Quality.

What role can academia and companies play in building a future with impact?
An inspiring conversation on sustainability, volunteering and citizenship, given over to reflecting on why partnerships, collaboration between organisations and shared responsibility matter in building responses to society's challenges.
Led by Commander Pedro Frazão, of Grupo Sousa, the session is followed by networking and refreshments over finger food.

On the day dedicated to Health and Well-being, we invite the community to reflect on the different dimensions of health, well-being and quality of life. Screenings, workshops and conversations to inform, prevent, care and encourage healthier choices.

Car-Free Day at U.Porto
For one day, leave the car at home.
As part of World Car-Free Day, take up the challenge of choosing more sustainable ways to get around. Leave the car at home and choose more sustainable ways to travel. Walking, cycling, taking public transport or sharing a ride are small choices that can make a difference. A chance for all of us, together, to rethink mobility and help build a more sustainable University and city.

Health Screenings
Looking after your health starts with prevention.
On 22 September, stop by Trindade Metro Station and take the opportunity to have a health screening. An initiative open to the whole community, dedicated to prevention, information and the promotion of well-being, run with the participation of U.Porto's Students' Unions, among other partner organisations.
Screenings on offer include:
- Blood pressure screening
- Cardiovascular risk and anthropometric assessment
- Oral health
- Nutritional and pharmaceutical advice
- Awareness sessions on food and medicines
- Screening for sexually transmitted infections

Workshop “The Relational Impacts of the Digital Age in Higher Education”
How is the digital age reshaping the way we relate to one another?
Take part in this workshop and reflect on the challenges and impacts of relationships in the digital age, particularly in higher education. Part of U.Porto's Integrated Health and Well-being Plan, the workshop features Joana Jesus (Clinical Psychologist — SASUP) and Bruno Pereira (member of the University of Porto's Information Security Unit), moderated by Raquel Madanços (SASUP).

Environmental Volunteering Action
Roll up your sleeves for the environment!
Take part in a morning of environmental volunteering, with tree planting and invasive species control. An opportunity to contribute directly to preserving and enhancing the local landscape. The initiative takes place along the stream at Monte de São Brás Ecological Park and is run by Matosinhos City Council's Municipal Green Structure Division. Registration opening soon.

Workshop “Sustainability at FFUP — 3rd Edition”
The time to act is now!
The workshop will feature the Deputy Mayor of Porto, Dra. Catarina Araújo, who will present the sustainability programmes currently under way and in planning across the city of Porto. It will also give the floor to master’s and doctoral students, invited to share — as flash presentations — examples of how sustainability is built into their research, whether as an objective, a research method, or a result already achieved.

Cooking well can also mean caring for ourselves and for the planet.
A workshop of sharing and learning dedicated to healthy, sustainable eating, exploring choices and practices that promote well-being and more conscious consumption. Aimed in particular at non-profit social solidarity institutions (IPSS), the workshop is run by the University of Porto's Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences (FCNAUP).

We end the week on the move! Join the U.Porto community for a morning of physical activity, solidarity and good company. We walk together for a good cause, celebrate everyone's involvement and close a week dedicated to making a difference.

Charity Walk
Walk with us for a good cause: 6 km of exercise, good company and solidarity!
Join a morning devoted to well-being, physical activity and solidarity. The Charity Walk invites the whole community to cover a 6 km route, in a moment of sharing and good company, complemented by warm-up moments and an Active Break.
Beyond promoting a more active and healthier lifestyle, this initiative also has a strong charitable side: the entire registration fee goes to the Porto´s Food Bank, and a collection of food and hygiene products runs alongside it — brought by participants on the day, at the meeting point — supporting the work this institution does with the organisations and people it helps.
Registration is required:
- €3.00 — U.Porto students
- €5.00 — rest of the U.Porto community, including Alumni
Registration includes: a T-shirt, snacks, water and moments of good company.
Final prize draw: enter for a chance to win 1 of 3 vouchers, each worth one month of UPFit membership.
📍 The route starts at the University of Porto Stadium and, among other points of interest, passes through the gardens of the Palácio de Cristal before finishing back at the Stadium. The detailed route is revealed to registered participants on the day itself.

Closing of the #SerCidadão Week
Time to celebrate the impact of a whole week.
Six days, many initiatives and a commitment that continues. We celebrate the contribution of everyone — people, organisations and partners — who helped turn participation into impact throughout the #SerCidadão Week. The closing, led by the Vice-Rector, Professor Guilhermina Rego, features the delivery of the goods collected during the week to the Porto´s Food Bank, followed by an informal moment of good company, music and celebration.
